The Government has announced that Torquay will be one of 75 towns which will benefit from a share of £1.5 billion through the Plan for Neighbourhoods initiative. Torquay is the only town in the South West to benefit from this funding.
Torquay will be given £20 million of funding and support over the next decade to deliver meaningful change to local communities, tackle deprivation and accelerate growth.
A neighbourhood board will bring together residents and businesses to decide how to spend the money.
In October 2023, we were successful in securing £20 million of funding for Torquay through the Long-Term Plan for Towns (LTP). The change of government in July 2024 meant the LTP commitment was paused whilst spending reviews took place.
The announcement of this funding is welcome news. Working with the community, we will now start to plan how this funding can be used to benefit local residents.
Cllr David Thomas, Leader of Torbay Council, said; “We are delighted that Torquay has been included in the Plan for Neighbourhoods initiative.
“This funding will be used alongside the £110 million of grant funding we have already received for the area to make Torquay a better place to live, work and invest in.
“As soon as we can, we will convene a neighbourhood board to start work on shaping and delivering projects that matter most to the community.”
