Do you want a flexible career where you can work from home at times to suit you and your family?
Torbay needs more Early Years Childminders and we want people who may be looking for a new career or wanting something that fits in with their lifestyle to come forward and contact us.
The Council can provide support and online learning resources to potential Childminders and anyone who registers as a Childminder will get between £600 and £1200 to help start them off.
Councillor Nick Bye, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services for Torbay said: “As part of our ongoing commitment to improving support for Children and families and also facilitating more employment opportunities in the Bay, we really want to encourage more people to come forward and consider becoming a Registered Early Years Childminder.
“So if you are looking for a rewarding and flexible career choice, want to work with children and would like to be able to choose your own working days and times to suit you please do get in touch – you can contact the Early Years team on 01803 207895 or email earlyyears@torbay.gov.uk .”
Childminders that register with Ofsted will get £600 and those who register with a Childminding agency will get £1200, plus Torbay Council provides ongoing support and e-learning opportunities for new Childminders.

What do local Childminders think?
Some local Childminders have shared with us why the job suits them. Here’s what one said:
“This is the best job for me! I knew I wouldn’t want to work away from my child so I went into childminding to allow me to work from home and provide childcare for my own child and others. This job allows my own child to mix with other children, learn how to treat the younger children and learn from the older children. I don’t miss any of their developmental milestones, I will get to take her to school, pick her up and wont miss any school plays.
“It’s my business, I’m self-employed and so I run it how I want to. This job allows me to go out and about- some days it doesn’t seem like work when we go to the farm or the beach!
“You have support from the local authorities, you can always ring to get advice and support.”
Another Childminder told us:
“I've worked as a Foster carer for 17 years and once the children got older I decided to also start childminding. I can honestly say I absolutely adore the children I look after. I love all the spontaneous adventures we go on and all the things we learn together! Childminding fits well alongside my fostering as I've been able to pick my own hours.”
