Essential works to rebuild part of Goodrington Road in Paignton start on Monday 22 January 2024 and will take up to 12 weeks.

This means sections of Goodrington Road will be closed to vehicles between Davies Avenue and Grange Road at the Dartmouth Road end.

The work will be in two phases to maintain access to Palm Tree View for vehicles and deliveries.

Phase 1 will be between Palm Tree View and Grange Road and will take up to seven weeks.

Phase 2 will be between the entrance to the Beverley Bay Holiday Park and Palm Tree View and will take up to five weeks.

The work has been delayed several times to avoid conflict with the Inglewood roadworks in the area. But it cannot wait any longer as the section of road is badly worn.

Because of the way it is made, the road will have to be completely renewed.

This means digging out just under half a metre of the carriageway, removing the waste, and rebuilding the road followed by surfacing.

During the works, the road will need to be under a 24-hour closure including at night.

This is because of the type of work taking place and for the safety of workers and road users. Footpaths will always remain open for pedestrians.

A diversion route will be in place on local roads while the work takes place and will be clearly signed.

Residents in the affected sections will not be able to drive onto the front of their properties and will need to park nearby during the period of the works.

The project has been planned for the quietest time of the year to have the least impact on the holiday parks and they will have full access.

Cllr Adam Billings, Cabinet member for Pride in Place, Culture & Events, and Parking, said: "There is never a good time for roadworks, but these essential works involve a major rebuild to improve this important route and cannot be delayed any longer.

"We have worked hard to keep the disruption to a minimum and we thank residents and road users for their patience and understanding during this period."

This work is part of Torbay Council’s annual infrastructure improvements and maintenance for 2023/24.

It is being carried out by SWISCo on behalf of Torbay Council with our sub-contractor Cormac Contracting Ltd.
