Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund will be open from Thursday 2 February until Friday 3 March 2023 for applications. People who have supported the central Torbay Lottery Fund have raised £12,000 for the 2022/2023 Small Grants Fund pot. We are inviting local charity, voluntary and community sector organisations to apply for a bid towards the costs of a specific activity or for the purchase of small items of equipment up to £2k.

Cllr Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services at Torbay Council, said; “Torbay Lottery has been helping our local communities to raise additional funding since 2017.  We would really like to see new local groups applying for funding from the Torbay Lottery Small Grants Fund this year.

“We also want to encourage as many local groups as possible to join our Torbay Lottery which is an easy and fun way to help raise monthly funding, with support from pre-designed marketing materials and a dedicated page on our Torbay Lottery website. By becoming a member of the Torbay Lottery, they will receive 50p from every ticket sold for their cause. The Torbay Lottery currently has 141 local good causes signed up who are already benefiting from the initiative, with over £162,500 being raised for good causes since the Lottery was launched. Our top good cause PATH Torbay raised over £1100 last year.”

The Panel will meet on Wednesday 15 March 2023 to determine who will benefit from this grant, with successful applicants being notified within six weeks of the closing date for applications.

You do not need to be a current Torbay Lottery good cause to apply but must meet the requirements set out in the policy. Here is an extract:

“Funding will only be provided where it can be demonstrated that a defined impact will be made that support the ambitions and visions of the Community and Corporate Plan. Organisations should demonstrate an outcomes focus in applications for funding. Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how the funding will achieve support for projects run by charities, voluntary groups and clubs and organisations.

Torbay Council residents will be the main recipients of the funding. The Council will require that all funding awards support the ambitions and visions of the Community and Corporate Plan, namely:

Ambitions

  • Torbay and its residents to thrive;
  • turned the tide on poverty and tackled inequalities;
  • our children and older people will have high aspirations;
  • there are quality jobs, good pay for our residents; and
  • affordable housing for our residents.

Visions

Thriving People:

  • turn the tide on poverty;
  • have high aspirations for all our residents; and
  • build safer communities.

Thriving Economy:

  • create an environment in which businesses and jobs can grow and where we have a local economy which is successful and sustainable; and
  • be the premier tourist resort in the UK.

Tackling climate change:

  • become a carbon neutral Council and work with others to create a carbon neutral community.

Council fit for the future:

  • create a culture of partnership between the Council and communities.

The Council retains the right to publicise all beneficiaries of the lottery small grants funding and the specific objectives that the funding will be used for.”
