We're encouraging people of all backgrounds and experiences to stand as candidates in this May’s local elections.
Local elections take place on 4 May and it’s not too late to put yourself forward as a candidate.
Anne-Marie Bond, Torbay Council's Returning Officer, said: “Being a councillor allows you to make a difference and help shape the future for the local community.
“It is important that people come forward who really reflect the communities they serve.
“People from all backgrounds and experiences can stand, and it would be reflective of our population to see younger people, disabled people, and residents from different ethnic minority backgrounds getting involved.
“You don’t need special qualifications. Skills gained through work, raising a family, caring for relatives, volunteering or being active in the community or faith groups are all highly valuable.”
You’ll receive support, information and training as a new councillor and get ongoing training and support throughout your time in office.
We're holding an information event on Tuesday 24 January at Tor Hill House in Union Street, Torquay, so prospective candidates can find out more about the role and what the council does.
There will also be an opportunity to hear from, meet and ask questions of current serving councillors and senior officers. The event runs from 5pm to 7pm.
Register your interest in attending by emailing electoral.registration@torbay.gov.uk.
More information about becoming a councillor can be found on our become a councillor page.
