Special services and events are taking place across Torbay this week to commemorate the life of Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II.

Churches and services across Torbay are open to all, regardless of faith to sign books of condolences, light a candle or to talk to someone.

Events are also being held to enable people to pay their respects.

Torre Abbey is restaging an exhibition that celebrates the many times Queen Elizabeth II visited the Bay during her reign. The exhibition can be viewed for free in the Medieval Undercrofts, with the space also being available as a place for reflection and quiet contemplation. The agenda of our, Meeting of the Council taking place on Thursday 15 September at 5:30pm has been revised to solely give thanks and pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The meeting will be opened with a Minute’s silence for the former Mayor Ann Williams and former Councillor Jean Cope. The meeting will be live streamed on our YouTube channel. 

Torbay’s Ageing Well Festival, taking place on Saturday 17 September, will enable people in the community to come together to remember Queen Elizabeth II and celebrate her life in whatever way they choose. Throughout the day there will be tributes, a Book of Condolence, music from a church singing group alongside the Salvation Army Band, and time for reflection and prayer.

The Ageing Well Festival takes place at the Riviera Centre between 10am and 5pm, with a special Service of Commemoration at 3pm. The Ageing Well Festival is open to all, with no need to book. Further details can be found on the Ageing Well Torbay website.

Torbay residents are invited to join a special online service to commemorate the life of Her Majesty at 3pm on Sunday 18 September. All residents are invited to watch the service via a special live stream that can be accessed on our Facebook or the commemoration service page.  

Anyone wishing to express their condolences is encouraged to send a message to the Royal Family via the online Book of Condolence which can be found on the Royal website.

Books of Condolence are also available for signing at venues across Torbay until the day after Her Majesty’s funeral, details can be found on our Paying your respects page.
