Torbay residents are being encouraged to sign up for an event and give their thoughts on what needs to be done to make Torbay Carbon Neutral by 2030.
Our next Community Climate Conversation takes place at the Scala Hall, Brixham on Saturday 9 July. It is the next in a series of public and stakeholder workshops that have looked at key issues, priorities and actions for the forthcoming Torbay Carbon Neutral Torbay Action Plan. In May, there were a series of themed climate public and stakeholder workshops looking at the themes of waste, nature, housing, and transport, and these events themselves followed on from Torbay Council’s Community Conference in November 2021.
For those who, sign up for the event, it is a chance to help shape how Torbay tackles climate change, while helping it to thrive. It has been organised by Torbay Climate Partnership and Torbay Council.
Attendees will get the opportunity to hear about what is currently happening in Torbay, what needs to happen to achieve carbon neutrality and the recommendations that have emerged in this process to date. They will be asked what they think of recommendations so far and be given the opportunity to add new ideas and ask questions.
Places must be pre-booked first via Eventbrite.
Leader of Torbay Council Steve Darling said: “We really want people to come to this event filled with ideas of what can be done in Torbay to help tackle climate change. This is another chance to make further recommendations and help shape how Torbay tackles climate change. We’ve also been delivering our initial Action Plan for Torbay which includes actions to develop solar farms, deliver energy efficiency advice and measures to homes across Torbay. More recently the Council approved its own Carbon Neutral Council Action Plan and allocated £1m to support delivering plans. We will also start rolling out electric charging points across car parks later in the year.”
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We need to accelerate action to tackle climate change and become carbon neutral by 2030 – this community event is a great opportunity to get involved in the initial conversation and develop some key actions, before the Torbay Climate Partnership launches its new draft Carbon Neutral Torbay Action Plan late in 2022.”
