Works to resume on Harbour View Hotel

We've appointed Morgan Sindall to continue with the construction of Torquay’s new Harbour View Hotel.

We've appointed Morgan Sindall to continue with the construction of Torquay’s new Harbour View Hotel.

Works on the multi-million-pound hotel project are set to recommence at the end of April, after the previous contractor Midas went into administration.

Upon completion, the 120-bedroom hotel will generate new employment opportunities of around 30 permanent jobs. Attracting thousands of guests each year, the hotel is also expected to bring an additional £3million of tourism spend to the local economy.

Morgan Sindall is appointed under the Scape Framework, which offers accelerated procurement for public sector organisations. Each delivery partner under the Scape Framework is supported by an extensive local supply chain, not only ensuring local and regional suppliers can benefit, but local sourcing reduces the carbon footprint of the project.

Traffic management measures that were in place along The Terrace will be temporarily removed by 1 April until works commence on the site.

Regular meetings are taking place with Morgan Sindall to finalise the delivery timeline, including the revised completion date.

Cllr Swithin Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Housing and Tourism for Torbay Council, said; “Midas’ administration has created difficulty for local businesses and their employees as well as the Council. Following that failure, the appointment of Morgan Sindall is great news for this project. Whilst there are still details to work through in terms of the delivery and time costs, we remain absolutely committed to this project.

“Upon completion, Harbour View hotel will complement existing hotel accommodation and our wider Torquay harbourside regeneration works, supporting the renewed ambition for Torquay and Torbay as a premier UK resort.”
