There will soon be a ‘blooming’ marvellous wildflower meadow to enjoy in Torbay.

SWISCo, a Torbay Council company, has leased the field between Churston and Brixham, from the Churston estate at the end of Americas Lane, and will be working throughout the year to create a spectacular wildflower meadow.

Wildflowers and urban meadows are becoming increasingly more popular and are extremely beneficial to the environment. The taller flowers and longer grass provide a great home and source of pollination for insects such as butterflies, bees, and all manner of wildlife.

The public right of way will remain unchanged from its current location; however, users are advised there may be some disruptions during the works.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member of Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council said: “This wildflower meadow will be a great addition to the Churston area of Torbay. Wildflowers offer many benefits, including helping to reduce our carbon footprint, providing an array of colours to Torbay’s natural beauty and creating a great talking point for residents and visitors. We look forward to seeing this new meadow develop.”

The future improvement to this green link is being developed with partners and wider plans are to be presented to the community over the coming months.
