Hosting street parties for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

If you’re looking to host a street party as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations make sure you apply for your road closure.

A street party is a great way to celebrate a national event.

If you’re looking to host a street party as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations make sure you apply for your road closure.

Applications for road closures on ‘A’ roads or bus routes need to be made to the council at least three months in advance meaning the deadline for applying is Friday 4 March.

If you’re looking to hold a street party and you don’t live on an ‘A’ road or bus route, road closure applications need to be made by no later than Friday 29 April.

Residents who would like to hold a street party are encouraged to get together with their neighbours and local businesses to discuss plans to make sure everyone has the opportunity to be involved in the celebration.

Whilst there are no charges for road closures, public liability insurance may be needed.

A giant airshow street party will be taking place on Paignton Green on Sunday 5 June, joining in with national ‘Big Jubilee Lunch’ events. Residents and visitors are invited to bring along a celebratory picnic, grab a bite from a range of high-quality food and drink outlets and enjoy the many flying displays as well as the airshow event village.

Cllr Swithin Long, Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Tourism and Housing for Torbay Council, said; “A number of local streets have already put in applications for street parties and road closures. If you are planning a Platinum Jubilee get together for your friends and neighbours, do get organising and don’t forget to involve the whole street”.

Cllr Nicole Amil, Member Champion for the Queens Platinum Jubilee. said; “The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will provide fantastic opportunities for communities to come together and celebrate the remarkable legacy of Her Majesty the Queen. Whether you’re hosting a full-scale street party, or a small garden party, it’s going to be a very special four-day weekend for the nation.”
