Torbay families get to go all ‘round the towns

We have awarded 6,340 tickets to families enabling them to travel for free on Stagecoach buses over the summer holiday.

In July, Torbay families who are entitled to benefits related free school meals were given the chance to apply for free travel on the local Stagecoach network this summer to help them get the most out of the school holidays.

Fully funded by us, the passes were offered to children, young people and their families in recognition of the financial burdens experienced throughout the pandemic.

1217 families received five family day explorer bus passes, each allowing 2 adults and 3 children to travel on local Stagecoach routes. As well as travelling around the Bay, ticket holders can also explore nearby areas such as Dawlish and Plymouth.

Cllr Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Torbay Council, said; “We are thrilled to be able to offer so many local families the chance to get out and about over the school summer holiday, exploring what our stunning Riviera and nearby towns has to offer. We know that many people have had an extremely difficult year, none more so than our already struggling families. I hope all of the families that have benefitted from this offer have a wonderful time.”
