Healthy Holidays providing fun activities and food clubs for children this Easter

This Easter break we are holding free Healthy Holiday activity clubs for children aged 5 to 16.

This Easter break we are holding free Healthy Holiday activity clubs for children aged 5 to 16. The activities are being run for children who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals as part of the government’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme, which provides free healthy food and exciting events over the school holidays through 2021.

The COVID-19 safe fun ranges from sports and crafts to cooking and dance, with special sessions for children with special educational needs, including an online only programme of activities.

Sessions are taking place around Torbay at locations including Brixham Rugby Club, Torre Abbey and Bose Cultural Academy Paignton from the 6-16 April and each child will be provided with lunch.

Parents whose children are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals that are interested in booking their children onto one of the sessions can do so by following the details on the healthy-holidays page.

Cllr Cordelia Law, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Torbay Council, said; “Holidays and half terms can be the most difficult times for families and some children are more likely to experience ‘unhealthy holidays’ in terms of nutrition and physical health. By providing a variety of activities alongside healthy meals for those already in receipt of benefits-related free school meals we can ensure that the most vulnerable children in Torbay are having a happy and healthy break.

I would like to say a big thank you to the local clubs, venues and volunteers who will be providing some fantastic experiences for children this Easter.”
