Sports Clubs in Torbay have been closed for a number of weeks.

Despite the gradual easing of lockdown measures, there are still a number of things you are not permitted to do including exercising in an indoor sports court, gym or leisure centre, go swimming in a public pool, use an outdoor gym or gather outdoors in a group of more than six (excluding members of your own household).

With no income and planned fundraising events postponed, Sports Clubs within Torbay are encouraged to apply for funding to help secure their clubs future.

The Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund (RHLGF) supports businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors with their business costs during coronavirus. Businesses within the sector are entitled to a one-off cash grant of up to £25,000.

There are also a variety of other grants available to community groups including our Voluntary and Community Sector COVID-10 Grants Scheme which is open for applications until 14 June.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Culture, Torbay Council said “Prior to coronavirus, sport and physical activity in Torbay was thriving, and even during the pandemic we have seen more and more people taking up physical activity and we want to see this continue. To ensure there is a network of sports facilities available in the future, we encourage all sports clubs within Torbay to apply for grant funding to help secure their future”.

Full details on all grants available can be found on our grants and funding support page.

Sports clubs are encouraged to visit the Sport England website for advice specific to the sport and physical activity sector, and what it means for your facility moving forward.
