We have approved £85,000 for a new crossing with signals to be installed opposite the Tesco in Preston to improve road safety.
The new crossing on Torquay Road will make it easier and safer for pedestrians to cross from Preston Park car park, bus stops and residential areas, over to the local shops and medical centre.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to announce the capital funding for this new pedestrian crossing, which has been requested by the local community for some time.
“This demonstrates once again that Torbay Council is serious about listening to the needs of local people.
“It is envisaged that the new crossing – which will improve both safety and accessibility for local residents – will be in place before next summer.”
Ian Doggett, Chairman Of The Patients Participation Panel at Pembroke Surgery commented: “We have waited a long time for a better pedestrian crossing for access to Pembroke Surgery as at present it is very dangerous to cross the road, therefore we are very pleased that the decision has now been taken.”
