Torbay Music Hub is launching a charity to help provide additional music education opportunities for young people across Torbay.

On Thursday 21 March, Torbay Music Hub will formally launch Torbay Music Foundation, a registered charity set up to raise funds to help more children access more music education opportunities.

Torbay Music Hub provides all pupils living in Torbay with the opportunity to learn to play an instrument, to sing, to participate in major musical events, to experience live music, and take part in choirs and ensembles. For many students, initial music experiences provided in schools cannot always be built upon. The Torbay Music Foundation will work to raise funds to enable more young people to access further musical opportunities.

The charity will work independently from, but in partnership with, the Torbay Music Hub, to grow Torbay Music Foundation into a creative and dynamic organisation which puts young people at the heart of everything it does.

Torbay Music Hub is looking to establish a board which will bring together a broad mix of skills and motivated individuals from a range of different backgrounds, and are inviting applications to join the Torbay Music Foundation Board of Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity for people who are particularly skilled in, have experience of, or a proven background in fundraising; bid-writing; setting up or working with a new charity in a financial and business strategy capacity.

Phil Black, Culture and Events Service Manager, Torbay Council said: “Torbay Music Foundation is a really important way of helping to ensure that every child aged between 5 and 18 in Torbay has the opportunity to participate in musical education.

“Every child can benefit from music education in many different ways. Music connects the brain in ways no other subject can. It enables children to develop listening, memory, perseverance, resilience, and self-expression skills as well as providing benefits to physical health and wellbeing.

“All children have the right to access these benefits. This exciting new venture will allow appointed Trustees to shape and build the Torbay Music Foundation, develop working practices and set up new projects, all for the benefit of young people across Torbay.”
