Residents in Devon, Somerset and Torbay are being offered the chance to have an independent motor expert review the quality of a recent vehicle service.

The free quality check is part of Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards Service’s motor trade project, and is aimed at local residents who want assurances that their vehicle service was carried out properly.

The checks will take place in the Wellington area in Somerset on Saturday 22 September and Sunday 23 September 2018.

A vehicle expert will be on hand to carry out checks on vehicles recently serviced and checks should take no longer than one hour.

To book an appointment please phone 01392 383000 (automated service) and ask for ‘Car Service checks'. Appointments are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

To take advantage of this free offer:

  • You must be a Devon, Somerset or Torbay resident and have had your car serviced by a garage within Devon, Somerset or Torbay.
  • The car service must have been carried out between Saturday 8 September and Saturday 22 September 2018
  • You will need to bring with you the paperwork that relates to the service.

Car owners will receive appropriate feedback on the condition of their vehicle and on the quality of any service provided. Trading Standards will use intelligence gathered to direct their work with the car servicing industry.

Please note that Trading Standards Officers will not be able to repair faults and in the unlikely event that a vehicle is found to be unroadworthy, owners will be advised accordingly.

Sharon Anderson, Compliance Manager for Devon, Somerset and Torbay Trading Standards Service said: “Most of us aren’t motor mechanics and at some point may have questioned if a garage really has fitted new brake pads, replaced the oil filter or checked fluid levels for instance This is a chance for those with any doubt or concerns to get a second opinion.”
