Torbay Council will be undertaking major highway maintenance in Hawkins Avenue between Upper Cockington Lane and Sherwell Valley Road during the summer school holidays.

The work will start on Thursday 26 July 2018 and will be undertaken by CORMAC Construction Ltd on behalf of Torbay Council. It is anticipated it will take 6 to 7 weeks to complete, during which time the road will be closed to through traffic.

Executive Lead for Community Services, Councillor Robert Excell, said: “The road needs to be reconstructed to bring it back to a good condition. Unfortunately, due to the type of work necessary to rebuild the carriageway the road will be closed. Regrettably, this will mean alternative parking options will be need to be arranged by affected residents as they will not be able to use vehicles to access their properties.

“We are really sorry for any disruption that this will cause. Please be aware that pedestrian will still have access at all times.”

During the first phase of works the local bus service will be re-routed along Upper Cockington Lane, Drake Avenue, Nut Bush Lane, Sherwell Rise South and Sherwell Valley Road. To help buses during this change, some light tree pruning will be undertaken and a number of temporary parking restrictions will be implemented around junctions.
