Torbay Council has taken the difficult decision to temporarily close the wooden decking on Beacon Quay on Torquay harbour.
The wooden decking area has suffered from issues with the timber bearers beneath the walkway. Consequently this area will be closed to members of the public to minimise any risk to pedestrians so the decking can be replaced.
Torbay Council intends to replace the decking as soon as possible and a tender process has already commenced for this work. The plan is to install new fit for purpose decking, which should be completed prior to the start of the summer season.
Elected Mayor Gordon Oliver, said: “During the process of these essential works the disruption to business’ and harbour customers will be kept to a minimum and will be closely managed by the harbour team.
“It is hoped that this popular walkway will be reopened by the Whitsun weekend subject to successful tendering by contractors and subsequent completion of the renovation project.”
