Cold weather warning and advice

Torbay Council is urging people not to venture out by vehicle or on foot.

Torbay Council is urging people not to venture out by vehicle or on foot. Whilst gritters have been out and salt is on the main roads, the snow, ice and sub zero temperatures is making roads treacherous and unsafe.

Gritters are working hard, but even they found the conditions exceptionally difficult overnight and have on occasions become stuck. They’ve all been released and continue to grit a modified route. The difficult conditions and the significant numbers of abandoned cars means they can’t grit the full route and they are focussing upon routes where there are lots of abandoned vehicles. They have also ensured that roads outside fire stations, police stations and the hospital are gritted to enable emergency services access.

Our advice is please do not travel and stay safe. We will provide any updates on Torbay Council’s website at www.torbay.gov.uk/current-emergencies.
