Torre Abbey in Torquay has undergone a major rebrand which includes the provision of a packed programme of exhibitions, events and activities for all ages

On Sunday 30 April, from 10am to 5pm (last admission 4pm), the museum will kick start the beginning of this new era with a new family programme called Family Sundays - with kids and teens now free to enter the Abbey (with a paying adult).

Executive lead for Tourism, Culture and Harbours, Cllr Nicole Amil, said: “Torre Abbey is going through a wonderful transformation, it has always been a beautiful high quality museum and with the new packed programme of events and activities planned it promises to offer something for everyone right throughout the year.

“If you haven’t been to the Abbey then you must come and experience this wonderful museum on your doorstep!”

Family Sundays include free activities in the house and gardens and also incredible bookable workshops featuring theatre, technology for kids, forest school, dance and play across selected Sundays, please see www.torre-abbey.org.uk for dates and further information.

Once inside the Abbey, there are a number of free self-led activities for families around the Abbey including hula hoops and dressing up, so even if you are not booking a paid workshop or activity you will find that there is still lots to do for families.

We are also proud to be working in partnership with international, national and local partners to host a wide variety of exciting and creative events and activities in our galleries, rooms and gardens.

The Torre Abbey team also programme temporary exhibitions in our galleries throughout the year bringing the very best of the art world to South Devon. We work with national partners and local practitioners to ensure that our walls are never dull and that our exhibitions inspire, amaze and make you smile. For all events, activities and events please visit the website.

To celebrate the new era a great membership is now being offered, named the 1196 Club (after the year the Abbey the was founded) it is a wonderful way to support the Abbey and get closer to the exhibitions, collections, and gardens. As an 1196 Club Member you can experience Torre Abbey and Gardens with unlimited free access all year by just showing your club card.  This annual membership is £16 or £30 for two.
