Following funding from a series of Section 106 contributions, Torbay Council, in partnership with the local community and Play Torbay, have agreed plans to fully refurbish the play area at Astley Park in Brixham.

Section 106’s are contributions payable by landowners or developers under planning agreements, which are intended to go towards funding any increased demand for council services; e.g. towards provision of school places, highway improvements, greenspace improvements, new transport links, affordable housing (if not provided on site) and on-going maintenance of public amenities.

Work will start on the new facilities in the next few weeks. The new equipment will be installed by Playdale Playgrounds and will be aimed at toddlers, through to pre-teens. Picnic benches will also be installed to enable families to enjoy the area. The cost for the design, supply and installation of the equipment was £60,000.

In addition to the new playground equipment at Astley Park, there is more good news for Brixham. Torbay Council, working in partnership with local community groups and Playdale Playgrounds, will be supplying and installing new swings at the Furzeham Play Area, once work to Astley Park is completed. This supply and purchase of these new swings was £17,000, which again came from Section 106 funding.
