Improvements to the A380 Kings Ash Road in Paignton between Tweenaway Cross and Waterleat Road will commence in April.

The works, which will take up to five months to complete, will see the carriageway widened at two separate areas.

The planned works will include extending the merge lanes leading up to the Tweenaway junction, which will allow the junction to work more efficiently. Improvements will also be made to the pedestrian crossing facility installed near to the Waterleat Road junction, along with a dedicated right turn lane into Waterleat Road being added from Kings Ash Road.

These improvements will complement each other, improving traffic flows and providing a safer crossing facility for pedestrians.

Executive lead for Community Services, Councillor Robert Excell said: “The ongoing improvement of the Torbay Ring Road is the next phase of our £8.4 million series of improvements to Torbay’s Ring Road, known as the Western Corridor. These works will complement the already completed works to the Tweenaway junction and beyond Sainsburys and up to the area around Long Road.

“This road is an important highways link for many local businesses and will continue to help boost further development and economic growth. This major investment into our strategic highway network follows the approval for Government Growth Deal Funding by the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, and wouldn’t have been able to take place without their support.

“We will ensure that every effort is made to keep disruption to a minimum while the works are taking place, but can I ask residents and businesses to be patient as works of this nature will come with some disruption. “

Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership Chair, Steve Hindley, said: "We are very pleased to see yet another phase of our Growth Deal funding taking shape on the ground, as part of the LEP's plans to improve the infrastructure of the whole of the Heart of the South West area and link business locations across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay."
