Torbay Libraries are looking for children and young people with a flair for design to help them produce new library cards for their members, whilst also celebrating Torbay’s rich heritage.
As part of their Heritage Lottery Funded project Celebrating Torbay, the library want to create new, attractive library cards that feature aspects of Torbay’s past.
The Design a Library Card competition is open to all children and young people between the ages of five and 16 inclusive and will be split into two age groups, five – 11 and 12 – 16, for judging. Aspiring designers are invited to submit their designs, using any tools they like, from pencil and paint to digital illustration.
The winners will each receive a £25 gift card, have their design used on a new library card and have it exhibited at Paignton Library during the Easter break. Runners up will each receive a £10 gift card.
Executive Lead for Customer Services, Councillor Dave Morris, said: “This is a great opportunity for our young people to show off their creative flairs whilst supporting our local libraries.
“Here in Torbay we have such a wonderful heritage and this competition lets our young people celebrate this as well as giving them a chance to see their work on our new library cards.”
Nerys Watts of the Heritage Lottery Fund said, “We are delighted to be involved in funding this competition as part of Torbay Council’s Celebrating Torbay project and we look forward to seeing lots of imaginative ideas and designs for the new library cards.”
To enter the competition children and young people can visit their local Library in Paignton, Torquay, Brixham and Churston to collect the entry form and design template. Entrants have until Saturday 20 February 2016 to submit their designs.
