On Friday 12 June Torbay Council hosted a “Cook Off” competition to find a new healthy children’s menu for local businesses.
The event was held at Coombe Pafford School in its purpose built state of the art ‘yellow frog cafe’. The menus were prepared by children aged between 6 and 16 and the dishes were judged by eight children from the school and Mr Tout from Jade’s Coffee House in Torquay.
The winning dish was produced by Hayden Francis from Coombe Pafford School who made Mexicana pasta. He received a family day pass to Paignton Zoo courtesy of Torbay Council. The second prize was a vegetable box from Total Produce and each child had a voucher for a meal at the Yellow Frog Cafe, a meal at Jade’s coffee House, and an apron and a punnet of strawberries.
The winning meal will be included on the menu’s of ten local businesses across the bay who are involved in the Growing kidz project.
Executive Lead for Community Safety, Councillor Robert Excell, said: “For parents, making sure their child is safe and healthy is their number one priority and healthy eating is a huge part of this. That is why this initiative has been started - to educate the public, engage children in healthy eating and provide healthy alternatives for families when they are eating out in Torbay.
“Well done to all the children who took part in this project.”
