Follow funding contributions from Sovereign Housing Development and extensive consultation with the Friends of Lindisfarne Way Park (FOLWP), a brand new playground has been installed for the benefit of the local community.

Executive Lead for Tourism and Environment, which also includes play in the Bay, Cllr Jeanette Richards, had said: "The plans include play equipment and represent one of the most extensive play projects that the team at Torbay Council have dealt with, which we hope will build upon last year's successful Geoplay Park.

"We fully recognise that play is a fantastic way of bringing communities together and keeping our children fit and healthy, and wanted to make sure that we got this project absolutely right.

"Therefore the initial consultation for the development of this open space was carried out by Friends of Lindisfarne Way Park. This allowed the community to be fully involved in deciding what equipment they feel would benefit the area."

Playground specialists KOMPAN Ltd were appointed by the council following a tender application to produce a design that met the criteria set out by the community. Abby Brooks-Weir, Chairman of FOLWP and Lee Kerslake, Chairman of Shiphay and the Willows Community Partnership assisted the council in choosing the winning provider based upon these designs.

FOLWP organised a celebrationary 'Party in the Park' which was held in May 2013 with the support of local businesses around the Barton and Willows areas.

The park has been a huge success with all members of the public. It is a great park for the whole family as children can enjoy the play equipment while there are also areas for dog walkers.

We are hoping to link this park to the new Nightingale Park across the road.
