Torbay Council is offering free stewarding training, for anyone who is involved in events or would like to be.
The training lasts a day (from 10am till 3pm with breaks) and is being offered on two dates. Either Tuesday 10th or Wednesday 11th May.
The training will cover the following topics:
- Stewards - what they do and how they act
- Why are stewards required
- Roles and responsibilities
- The various types of steward
- What to do on shift and what not to do
- Getting to know the event structure and layout
- Activity with maps
- Phonetic alphabet
- Radio use
- Keeping safe - noise, safe handling,
- Hazard awareness
- Safeguarding
- Overcrowding
- Crimes at events
- How to diffuse aggression
- Fire awareness
- First aid
- Emergencies
- Evacuation
- Lost and found children
The training will take place in the Spanish Barn at Torre Abbey and will be invaluable for anyone who wants to be involved in events across the Bay, including volunteering at Torbay Council events like Music on the Meadows, and The English Riviera Airshow, etc. It will also prove really useful for anyone putting on events on Torbay Council land.

A Certificate of attendance will be given to each Steward that has completed the training.
Numbers are strictly limited, with the training suitable for those 16 years+. The event is completely free to attend, but please bring a packed lunch. For more information and to reserve your place, email events@torbay.gov.uk.
