As part of Torquay Museum's Explorer Season, a talk by Dr Kate Strasdin: Senior Lecturer, History and Theory, Fashion and Textiles Institute, Falmouth University.

Victorian ladies are too often depicted as wilting wallflowers, incapable of walking anywhere without fainting fits, wearing impractical corsets and long skirts. This lecture takes a fresh look at some of the most pioneering women of the second half of the 19th century, women who climbed mountains and did so whilst wearing some seemingly unlikely garments.
