Childminders
Childminders provide childcare in their own home. The number of children a childminder looks after varies from individual to individual. All registered childminders are registered with and inspected by Ofsted and undertake training, including paediatric first aid.
A number of childminders offer the free nursery sessions (they will have to be accredited to do this and are known as Accredited Childminders). Most childminders operate on a full day care basis, similar to a day nursery.
You may find that childminders are more flexible than other providers and that they offer additional services, such as evening and weekend childcare. As with any childcare setting, it is best to contact the childminder direct to find out what is available and whether it suits your requirements.
The Torbay Childminders Network
Childminders who join the Torbay Childminder Network receive extra training and can become accredited to teach the same Early Years Curriculum which is taught to three and four year olds in school. This means that parents can claim the free nursery sessions when their child reaches the age of three.
If you wish to find childminders in Torbay you can contact the Family Information Service on 0800 328 5974 or visit the
