We're asking residents to complete a short survey which will help shape future priorities for making Torquay town centre a safer place.

We've teamed up with the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Devon and Cornwall (OPCC) to pose nine questions about whether people feel safe in Torquay and what could be done to make them feel more secure.

The work is being done on behalf of Torbay’s Community Safety Partnership, which is keen to ensure its efforts respond to the issues that matter most to people.

Survey participants are being asked about their experiences in Torquay town centre during the day and night.

Councillor Christine Carter, Cabinet Member for Corporate and Community Services, said: “We want to gain a better understanding of what residents, businesses and visitors feel are the main issues in Torquay town centre to enable us to effectively address these and support the town centre to be enjoyed by all.

“We’d encourage people to complete this quick questionnaire as it will help us to build up a picture of what people’s concerns are and what we need to concentrate on. We can then start to address these issues.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez said: “I continue to work with local authorities and others across Devon and Cornwall to help secure significant improvements to our towns and cities. I have already made available £200,000 to help Torbay Council and the local police to tackle antisocial behaviour and crime in Torbay.

“I would urge those who work in the town, live there, or visit to take a few minutes of their time so we can hear your voice in shaping future plans.”

As well as shaping future plans and work, the survey results could also influence how the Torbay Community Safety Partnership bids for funds.

The survey is available online and will run from Thursday 28 April until midnight on Sunday 16 May.
