Motorists and pedestrians are advised of two upcoming roadworks due to start towards the end of February 2022, which may bring some disruption to those travelling in the Hele, Upton and St Marychurch area of Torquay.

Both schemes will be carried out by SWISCo Contractor SWH Ltd, on our behalf.

Penny’s Hill Road, Torquay

On Monday 21 February 2022 reconstruction work will be starting on Penny's Hill Road, Torquay.

The works will see Penny's Hill Road closed from Teignmouth Road junction by Cricketfield Road, down to Lymington Road. This is so a full reconstruction of the road can be carried out. This will take up to six weeks to complete.

The diversion for road users during this scheme will take you along Cricketfield Road towards Barton. At the roundabout turn right onto Barton Road. Continue to the roundabout and turn right onto Hele Road, follow the road until you meet the roundabout and turn right onto Teignmouth Road. And vice versa if travelling from Lymington Road/Teignmouth Road.

A pedestrian diversion will also be in place. Pedestrians will be directed past ATS tyres onto the one-way section of Teignmouth Road, where they can follow the footpath along to link onto Cricketfield Road. And vice versa if walking from Cricketfield Road direction.

Teignmouth Road, Torquay

This scheme will be starting on Monday 28 February 2022 and is due to last up to eight weeks.

The works will see Teignmouth Road closed from Park Road to St Marychurch Road, access to properties will remain and residents have been informed.

The diversion for road users during this scheme will take you along Westhill road, turn left onto Manor Road followed by a left onto Fore street where you can follow the road round to St Marychurch Road. And vice versa if travelling from St Marychurch.

The footpaths along Teignmouth road will remain open.

Please think about where you need to be travelling to around these areas and if there is an alternative route to get there.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, said “As you travel around Torquay please take these two road closures into consideration when planning your journey.

We do not take the decision to close roads lightly and we apologise for any disruption and inconvenience these works may cause”
