Every month Torbay Lottery shines the light on one of the good causes that receive funds from the local lottery, and December’s good cause is Torbay Street Pastors.

Torbay Street Pastors are part of a national team first pioneered in 2003. Torbay Street Pastors patrol in small teams into the early hours on Friday and Saturday nights around Paignton, Brixham and the Torquay Habour side.

Trevor Staveley from the organisation said: "We are proud to have the Safe Place Van on the Torquay Harbour side. A team of volunteers work from there providing first-aid, flip flops, water and support, even a defibrillator. We work closely with the door staff, police, NHS and the Council and are often called upon to help in situations. We help with all sorts of problems, from charging a phone, so a young man can call his friends, to calling an ambulance for a lady with a head injury.

"Funding received by the Torbay Lottery has helped us to purchase new uniforms and supply training for new volunteers.”

Torbay Lottery is a Council initiative, empowering local groups to generate vital funds in a fun and effective way, while enabling players to support the causes they care about the most.

113 causes have now signed up and with 60p of every £1 ticket brought going straight to these local causes the Torbay Lottery has raised over £52,000 since it was launched in April 2017. Draws take place every Saturday night and you could be in with a chance to scoop up to £25,000!

If you sign up to play before 29 December you could be in with a chance to win £50 M&S voucher in the Christmas super draw.

It is now easier than ever to choose your good cause through the new category search. Categories include: animals, carers, children and family, community groups, disability, education and learning, heritage, parks and open spaces.
