Have you been thinking about becoming a foster carer, but want to know more? During this year’s annual Fostering Network Foster Care Fortnight Torbay’s Foster Care team are inviting you to meet the team and talk about how to start your journey to be becoming the best foster carer.

This year’s annual Foster Care Fortnight is taking place from Monday 8 to Sunday 21 May and Torbay's Fostering team will be running a number of information events  over the two weeks.

Councillor Julien Parrott, Executive Lead for Adults and Children, said: "Our foster carers do an excellent job and I would like to thank them for all the work they do. We now need to recruit even more foster carers from a wide range of backgrounds, with different skills and qualities, to make sure that even more children and young people are placed in the right home for them.

"Most people already have the skills they need to help a child in need thrive, but the additional expertise that foster carers learn and the training they receive can also give them invaluable skills if they want a different future career.

"So anyone who is considering becoming a foster carer should get in touch and find out more - you have nothing to lose! If you do decide to go ahead with it you could make such a big difference to a child or young person who needs alternative care."

The information events will be taking place at:

  • Torquay Library on Wednesday 10 May - 10 am to 1 pm
  • The Morningside Hotel, Babbacombe on Saturday 13 May - 1 pm to 4 pm. Cream Teams will be available at this event
  • Paignton Library on Tuesday 16 May - 10 am to 3 pm
  • Torbay Leisure Centre on Thursday 18 May - 5 pm to 8 pm

These sessions are drop ins and everyone is welcome to attend to have an informal chat with Torbay Council's Foster Care Team. More information on fostering can also be found by calling the team during office hours on 01803 207857 or by visiting the Fostering page.

Torbay Council's Foster Care Team will provide all the training and support. There are also respite breaks for carers, monthly support groups for foster families and all carers have access to their own fostering social worker.
