Torbay’s Elected Mayor Gordon Oliver has awarded funding to 66 organisations and charities throughout the Bay to support their projects.

The Annual Mayor’s Fund Awards evening took place on Wednesday 16 March at the Palace Hotel, Torquay when organisations and charities from the local area were awarded grants for their individual appeals.

Torbay’s Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver made his annual pledge of giving half of his salary to charitable groups and, this year, 66 charities were granted funding of up to £1,000.

The Mayor’s Fund invites organisations to apply for funding to help support and promote the work they carry out in the Bay.

The recipients of the fund ranged from sports clubs to arts groups and youth organisations to disability support groups.

Gordon Oliver, said: “It was wonderful to have 66 representatives from each of the groups attend the event this year.

“It was an inspirational evening, with a good mixture of differing charities and individuals’ benefitting. The fund recognises the many people who give up their valuable time to help worthy causes in the Bay and it works to support them financially. Without many of these organisations the fantastic work that happens around the Bay wouldn’t exist.”
