A generous conversation on the relationship between Torbay’s rich geology and its terracotta industry. With the last of Torbay Potteries’ makers, Ron Jackson, together with Lou Rainbow (Craft Revolution, Dartington), Michael Martin (Ecological design), Torquay Pottery Society and historian John Risdon.

Bringing together tales of local terracotta, an exhibition of pieces from the Torbay Potteries and samples of local clay, this is a celebration of all the potential hidden in Torbay’s earth and its rich history. Torbay’s geologists will be on hand to uncover the hidden layers beneath our feet and a flash mob of potters will help us to get our hands dirty with local clays. Together, perhaps we can find a way to reignite the hot kilns of Torbay’s past and dream of a new local business rooted in the people and earth of the area!

This event marks World Environment Day. Hosted by Torbay Culture in association with Encounters Arts and the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark.
