To elect a Chairman/woman for the 2017/18 Municipal Year.

Councillor Tyerman was elected as Chairman of the Employment Committee for the 2017/2018 Municipal Year.

It was reported that, in accordance with the wishes of the Conservative Group, the membership of the Committee had been amended for this meeting by including Councillor Barnby instead of Councillor Lewis (C) with Councillor Barnby filling the Conservative vacancy for this meeting.

To appoint a Vice-Chairman for the 2017/18 Municipal Year.

A Vice-Chairman was not appointed for this Municipal Year.

To confirm as a correct record the Minutes of the meetings of the Committee held on 23 March 2017, 26 April 2017 and 1 June 2017.

The Minutes of the meeting held on 23 March 2017 were confirmed as a correct record.  The Minutes of the meeting held on 26 April 2017 and 1 June 2017 were deferred to a future meeting.

Prior to consideration of the item in Minute 22 the press and public were formally excluded from the meeting on the grounds that the item involved the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in paragraphs 1 and 2 of Part 1 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).

Members considered an exempt report which sought their approval for the appointment of two Non-Executive Directors to the TEDC Board.

Members were displeased that an officer of the TEDC or members of the interview panel were not present at the meeting, it was for this reason alone that Councillor Thomas (J) could not support the recommendation.

Resolved:

That, subject to approval from the Board of the TEDC, the candidates set out in the exempt report be appointed to the Board of the TEDC be approved by Torbay Council.
