Works are due to commence on 16 February 2016 to improve traffic flow to one of Torbay’s major roundabouts.

Improvements at the Gallows Gate Roundabout will involve widening the Marldon Road approach to the A380 Ring Road. This will provide a lengthened two lane section allowing for additional queuing capacity. The work will be complete by April 2016.

These works are part of a series of improvements, known as the Torquay Gateway Schemes which are improving transport links in the vicinity of the newly opened South Devon Highway. The additional queing capacity is being added as additional traffic is expected to use this route to connect with the new link road, instead of the more traditional Riviera Way route.

Executive Lead for Community Services, Councillor Robert Excell, said: “This improvement scheme at Gallows Gate will really help to relieve traffic congestion on the approach to this roundabout, as well as assisting commuters by improving this direct route in and out of Torbay.

“There are further improvements planned for junctions on Riviera Way and Newton Road over the next two years. These planned improvements show that there is continued investment into our highway network following the opening of the South Devon Highway.”

The works on Marldon Road have been approved for Department for Transport Funding by the ‘Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership’
