Acquisition of site for new primary school in Paignton

The Council is forecasting a shortage of primary places in the Paignton area from September 2017 onwards. The Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has agreed to fund a new primary free school in the area on the condition that the Council assists with the acquisition of a site and provides a financial contribution towards the total acquisition cost.

Consultation process

Officers have already undertaken extensive consultation with parents, schools and the local community regarding the need for a new primary school. There have also been various communications, meetings and site visits with the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to assess the suitability of various site options. There have also been reports presented to Council.

Parents and children in Paignton who will benefit from the provision of a new primary school. Other key stakeholders including the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), the Department for Education (DfE), the Regional Schools Commissioner (RSC) and the multi-academy trust who will set up and run the school – the Learning Academy Partnership South West (LAPSW).
