Draft recommendations on the new electoral arrangements for Torbay Council - Electoral Review - Draft Submission by Torbay Council pdf icon PDF 122 KB

Minutes:

Further to the meeting of the Working Party held on 1 November 2017, members considered the draft Council response to the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) which had been prepared following their feedback at the last meeting.  Councillor Hill advised that he had spoken to the Maidencombe Residents’ Association who had confirmed that they had made a submission to the LGBCE advising that they want Maidencombe to be kept within the St Marychurch Ward.  Members therefore accepted the proposals as set out in paragraph (f) of the submitted report.

Actions:

(i)         Councillor Hill to contact the Maidencombe Residents’ Association to obtain a copy of their submission to the LGBCE and send it to Teresa Buckley to circulate to the members of the Constitution Working Party;

(ii)        Teresa Buckley to check the number of residents in the polling districts for Galmpton (1033) and Churston (503) to see which has the largest number of electors and include the name of that area in the suggested name for the Ward, members feel that the name of Ward the should represent both the Paignton and Brixham areas of the Ward (i.e. Galmpton with Hookhills Ward); and

(iii)       subject to the comments made at the meeting, Members supported the recommendations to Council set out in the submitted report - Teresa Buckley to update the report to include amended wording for paragraph (d) to strenghten the arguement against having a single member Ward with more emphasis being given on the flexibility to support residents and work together on Ward issues and circulate a copy of the revised report to the Chairman and the Working Party for their comments.
