To appoint a Chairman/woman of the Committee for the 2011/2012 Municipal Year.

Councillor Pritchard was elected as Chairman of the Employment Committee for the 2011/2012 Municipal Year.

Apologies for absence were received from Councillor Darling.

To consider appointing a Vice-Chairman/woman of the Committee for the ensuing Municipal Year.

Councillor McPhail was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Employment Committee for the ensuing Municipal Year.

To make appointments to the following companies:

(a)       English Riviera Tourism Company;

(b)       PLUSS Board of Directors;

(c)        Riviera International Conference Centre Board of Directors;

(d)       Torbay Economic Development Company;

(e)       Torbay Town Centre Company.

The Committee was advised of the removal of Councillor McPhail and former Councillor Christine Carter from the Board of the English Riviera Tourism Company.  They also noted the increase in the number of Directors on the Board from 12 to 14 to allow for the former Chairman, Laurence Murrell to stand down as Chairman of the Company but remain as a Director and for a new Chairman and Director to be appointed.  Following recent elections, the Board had selected Mr C D Hart, Solicitor and Managing Partner of Hooper and Wollen Solicitors as the new Chairman of the Board.  Their constitution required the Employment Committee to confirm the appointments to the Board.

The Committee considered and made appointments to a number of companies established by the Council as follows:

That the following people be appointed to the groups as set out below:

(a)       English Riviera Tourism Company – Councillors Richards and Stringer (appointed until May 2015) and Mr D C Hart (Director and Chairman of the Board);

(b)       PLUSS Board of Directors – Councillor Stocks (appointed until May 2015);

(c)        Riviera International Conference Centre Board of Directors – Councillor Excell (appointed until May 2015);

(d)       Torbay Economic Development Company – Councillors Alan Faulkner, David Thomas and Tyerman (appointed until May 2015); and

(e)       Torbay Town Centre Company – Councillor Excell (appointed until May 2015).
