Between 15 November 2021 and 19 November 2021, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) conducted a joint inspection in Torbay to judge the effectiveness of the area in implementing the special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) reforms as set out in the Children and Families Act 2014.
The findings which were published on 13 January 2022 identified significant weaknesses in services for children with SEND and says council and NHS partners must do better.
The report recognises areas of progress including greater stability in children’s services and specialist school settings that provide strong services.55808
Report of the joint area SEND inspection in Torbay held between 15 November 2021 and 19 November 2021.
We as the partnership, led by the SEND Strategic Board, fully accept the findings of the report and we have produce a written statement of action which sets out what we are going to do to improve.
The statement was developed with input from over 450 different stakeholders from across the local area, including SEND Family Voice Torbay and children and young people.
We would like to reassure children, young people, families and carers that we remain focused and dedicated to ensuring that when necessary you are offered quality and appropriate SEND services, and that you remain involved as we implement the action plan.57912
