Here at SWISCo we were delighted to be offered the opportunity to decorate one of the seagulls for the Stolen Seagull Scavenger Hunt which is taking place across Torbay this summer, until 11 September.

So why is he called Circular Stuart?  He is ‘Circular’ as he represents the ‘circular economy’ which is a vision for the future. Shifting towards a more circular economy will mean we optimise our use of resources, increasing the duration of a product’s useful life and ensuring when a product has reached the end of its life its resources can be productively used repeatedly, creating further value. This means that the added value in products remains in the systems for as long as possible, so reducing waste. The transition to a more circular economy requires changes throughout value chains, including product design, new business and market models, novel ways of turning waste into a resource and changes to consumer behaviour. The move to a more circular economy will bring environmental, financial and social benefits.

Why Stuart?  Well, we didn’t want to call him Stephen!!

With ‘Jamie’ making such big waves across Torbay as we introduce a new blue bag for paper recycling, as part of Torbay’s household Right Stuff, Right Box recycling service we thought that Stuart could help to solve a common problem when it comes to recycling – what do all the symbols on packaging mean?

As much as we want to promote recycling to people who live in Torbay, we know that visitors to the area will also take part in the Stolen Seagull Scavenger Trail this summer, and no matter where you live or what the recycling service looks like at home, understanding recycling symbols will help us all to recycle better.

To find out more take a look at Recycle Now's understanding recycling symbols page.

Recycling matters so much but remember that sometimes what you don’t recycle matters just as much as what you do!  Its all about getting the ‘Right Stuff’ in the ‘Right Box’.

Circular Stuart’s home for the summer is at AR & E Wallis Electrical shop, Torbay Road, Paignton. If you find him, don’t forget to take a photo and tag SWISCo on social media.
