AT/2015/0257 | G1- Group of Monterey cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa)- Dismantle and fell. Replant with x 3 heavy standard oaks (Quercus robur). Arboricultural justification The presence of Seiridium canker has been noted within the crown of the trees. This is noted through the presence of dead lateral branches, dead foliage and foliage which is fading from green to yellow. The symptoms are extensive throughout the crown and is significantly reducing the amenity value the trees offers within the local and wider environment. Seiridium cardinale is a fungus which enters the tree through wounds and cracks in the bark and disrupts the trees natural processes. This disruption leads to die back of the crown and can lead to the death of the tree in the long term. In the short term the tree is disfigured leading to a reduced amenity value. Pruning is an option to control however in the case of this tree it is not considered appropriate. The pruning would be excessive and remove lateral branches, used as support within the crown structure, which could lead to an increased likelihood of branch failure (the trees are in an exposed position). The owner of the tree would also like to allocate funds reasonably and managing a tree which is in decline is not considered to be reasonable. They would rather plant x 3 new trees (number of trees, size and species can be discussed) in positions where there will be no future conflict. The main aim will be to plant and maintain trees which can become features in the long term. | 6 Southfield Rise Clifton With Maidenway Paignton Torbay TQ3 2NE
