Social care isn't free, so you will need to pay for some of your care. The amount you pay depends on your needs and the amount of assets you have. After you've had the care needs assessment, we will do a financial means test. For the means test, we will look at your income, savings and property to work out how much you need to contribute towards the cost of your care and support.
Your eligibility for social care
There is a national eligibility threshold for social care, which consists of three criteria, all of which must be met for your needs to be eligible. The eligibility threshold is based on:
- Whether your needs are due to a physical or mental impairment or illness
- To what extent your needs affect your ability to achieve two or more outcome, such as maintaining personal hygiene and managing toilet need; and
- Whether, and to what extent, this impacts on your wellbeing
