IACF are very pleased to invite this special lecture performance inspired on one of the marginal influences that yielded a rather giant influence on the contemporary literature of the late Victorian and early twentieth century, Edward Fitzgerald's translation of The Ruba'iya't of the eleventh century Iranian poet, mathematician and astronomer, Omar Khayya'm. It most notably inspired the title of Agatha Christie's 1942 novel, "The Moving Finger".

Charles Mugleston was born in 1954 in Ipswich “The Florence of Suffolk” as wittily titled by the world famous Anglo-Irish poet, author, translator and genius Edward FitzGerald who also honoured his Suffolk hometown of Woodbridge variously heading letters Bridgewood and Inthemud. He was first given a copy of E.F.G’s (or ‘Effigy’ as he sometimes called himself) The Ruba’iya’t of Omar Khayya’m aged eight, not recognising its sublime value - Light & delight then.. but imbibing the Wine of Wisdom – of age, reflection on the five editions, wide reading around & about this universally loved Spiritual Classic, such has brought rich rewards… clarity of vision about the Universality of Soul in the Unity of Spirit, being an ever poignant paradox he loves to share worldwide through unique lectures/recitals as part of the activities of Omar Khayyam Theatre Company.

Did Dame Agatha also read between the lines… crack open the “The Secret…?”
