Come and help us to create a sustainable Community Garden in the stunning grounds of Torre Abbey Museum. Initially over a period of 12 weeks, keen individuals from the community (particularly those over 55) are invited to work with our Head Gardener and Learning Officer to develop the raised beds and community garden area.
The first half of the project will see the design and installation of a variety of raised beds from around the world, and potentially setting up a sheltered area for the team to take time out from the gardening.
The second phase of the project will see the development of links with community groups such as local nurseries, children’s centres, memory cafe facilitators and community builders to provide intergenerational sessions. The idea is that the initial group of community participants will pass on some of the gardening skills they have learnt so far, with assistance from the Torre Abbey team. We hope that this will create and develop into a community garden that is sustainable for future years.
This event will be held in the gardens with a wet weather alternative in place.
This event is part of the Connecting Actively to Nature Programme that is running across the whole of Devon.
