A glittering lineup of events is on offer at the English Riviera Film Festival when it returns this autumn for its seventh annual celebration of filmmaking in the South West. And whereas last year’s Covid-restricted event took place entirely online, this year promises a great selection of venue audience events.

Festival goers will be able to attend events in person at Artizan Gallery, South Devon College Hi Tech & Digital Centre Cinema and Torquay Museum.

A new highlight this year, as part of the Festival’s mission to seek out new talent, will be the 72 Hour Film Challenge for South Devon College students, who will compete to produce new short films in just 3 days. The Winner will be shown at the main Awards day screening and ceremony on Saturday 6 November.

A record number of entries means that there will be double the amount of films screened as in previous years, previous English Riviera International Film Award winners have hailed from across the globe, with some of the  previous winners and films achieving TV, Cinema and film industry  success..

UK entries include emerging talent from RADA, Colleges across Devon and the Royal College Art. The Artizan Gallery plays host to 4 days of film screenings with film producers using many different styles in bringing their stories to screen.  With Animations, dramas, comedies, documentaries, horrors and utilising film techniques filming on super 8 and 35mm.

The week-long Festival will culminate in the English Riviera International Film Awards. Excitingly we return to South Devon College's High Tech and Digital Centre Cinema.

The Festival is proud to announce that the 2021 awards are sponsored by CVP, one of the largest independent suppliers of production equipment for the Media and Entertainment sector in Europe. We are delighted that CVP will be joining us at the Festival. This year’s awards include the new category of Best Film Score and the beautiful awards trophies themselves – the ‘Rivieras’- will once again be handcrafted by Our Glass of Cockington.  The main festival day is also a great opportunity to meet many of the film producers behind the nominated films and we are very excited about this years lineup of films.

There is also a Film Premiere at Torquay Museum on Friday 5 November; The Legend Plays On explores the true story of Billy Sutton, son of a Birmingham bullring flower seller and grandson of a Peaky Blinder, who became instrumental in helping the Miami Chief of Police to clean up its crime-ridden streets in the 1980s.  With many of the Cast and Crew of the film in attendance.

The 7th English Riviera Film Festival is a volunteer led, not-for-profit venture in partnership with South Devon College, Artizan Gallery, Devon and Cornwall film and Premiere Scene.

The English Riviera Film Festival’s mission is to celebrate and promote filmmaking in the South-West of England as well as provide a showcase for talent from across the globe. In this way, we aim to promote the South-West as a place where the film industry can do business, a picture-perfect location with a wealth of film making talent ready to join the world stage.
