Thank you for taking the time to look at our current children’s social care vacancies within Torbay.

No service or leadership, my own included, can be perfect and no organisation working in this field will be without its challenges in these difficult times. What we can guarantee is that the commitment to change and the improvement of services and outcomes for children in Torbay is authentic.

I asked the Children’s Services Leadership Team how they would describe working in Torbay and they summarised with 5 key points:

  1. You will be challenged and motivated

Trust me when I say no two days in Torbay are ever the same. We have such a wide and varied mix of cases, children, families, circumstances and situations. The complexity can be astounding, but that’s the challenge! You will have to use your problem-solving skills daily, and the experiences you have will keep your mind razor sharp; you will  be in a process of continuous learning .

  2. You will learn about yourself

The work brings with it physical and emotional demands that will highlight and deepen your levels of skill and resilience. We will support you through the good times – and the less good times – and we will nurture your talent and ability to resolve difficult situations. We expect our social workers to be equipped with a high level of emotional intelligence and we think that the work you carry out will help develop and hone your perceptive skills and, in turn, make the job even more meaningful and rewarding.

  3. You will be part of a supportive, close-knit team

You will build relationships in your teams that will encourage you through the challenging times, and bring you together in ways that just don’t happen in routine office work. You will probably work on cases that will change your assumptions, change your outlook and change the way that you practice. Working in this environment will build relationships that stay with you through your social work career.

  4. You will have career opportunities

There are lots of career opportunities, whether you want to be a social worker at the front line, or make a move into management. You will be part of our exciting journey towards building a highly regarded, successful service. Working here, in our children’s service, will give you a breadth of knowledge and a myriad of different experiences. Underpinning this is a clear system in place that includes manageable caseloads, effective management supervision, guidance and expertise.

  5. You will make a difference

Being involved in a child or family’s life – sometimes when they are in crisis – and being a key player in bringing about positive change puts you in a privileged position. Children and young people are at the very heart of everything we do in Torbay – whatever your role or position, you will be there making a positive difference to the lives of children and families. Your work for the local authority can achieve change for those for that most need it. You can feel proud of what you and how you do it.

If you are interested in being part of our improvement journey, we can offer an attractive package of employment and relocation options, including retention payments for qualifying posts.

I look forward to receiving an application from you & look forward to welcoming you to Torbay.
