1. Key purpose of job
- Secure grant funding from a series of funders to act as match funding for the Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One project.
- Work with the Torre Abbey Development Foundation to explore funding opportunities and increase individual giving.
- Complete reporting and updates to funders.
2. Anticipated outcomes of post
- Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One will have adequate funding to be completed within the objectives of the project and to the needs of the funders.
- Funders will be fully informed of progress and outcomes against their objectives.
3. List key duties and accountabilities of the post
- As an Employee of Torbay Council all roles are expected to work in a way that ensures vulnerable children and adults are safeguarded and report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Designated Senior Lead for Safeguarding is the Chief Executive and Director of Children’s Services.
- Deliver excellent customer service every time by modelling Torre Abbey’s Core Values and Spirit of Place.
- Support the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager and Torre Abbey Development Foundation in the creation of the fundraising strategy for the £500k of match funding required for the Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One project.
- Research and develop a pipeline of grant opportunities ensuring the project meets with the funder’s requirements and submit application proposals to the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager.
- Write and submit persuasive applications for grant funding with support from the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager and Trustees of Torre Abbey Development Foundation.
- Where grants are successful, ensure funders are adequately thanked and acknowledged. Prepare and submit all required paperwork, reports and evaluations on behalf of the grant holder in line with funders agreements.
- Ensure the project team are fully aware of all grant requirements and restrictions and monitor to ensure these are met.
- Build and nurture relationships with current and prospective corporate and major donors on behalf of Torre Abbey Development Foundation to explore large donations and corporate sponsorship.
- Build and nurture relationships with programme officers, and key stakeholders, serving as the main point of contact for grant expenditure, reporting, and communications.
- Work with Torre Abbey Development Foundation and relevant staff in the Culture and Events team to develop individual giving streams and community fundraising events in relation to the Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One project.
- Plan New Beginnings Chapter One project fundraising campaigns and appeals with the support of Torre Abbey Development Foundation and develop and deliver them in conjunction with the Marketing Officer.
- Provide regular reports to the project team and the Torre Abbey Development Board on progress against fundraising targets.
- Work with the project evaluators to prepare mid-point and end of project evaluation documents.
- Act as a key holder for Torre Abbey and able to undertake opening up and locking up procedures when required.
4. Budgetary/Financial Responsibilities of the post
- Significantly contribute towards securing up to £500k of fundraising towards the Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One project.
- Use reports produced by the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager on spend to report to funders.
5. Supervision/Line Management Responsibilities of the post
- Provide oversight of the day-to-day duties of 2 x intern’s supporting Torre Abbey New Beginnings Chapter One but management of these individuals lay with the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager.
- Oversee the day-to-day duties of external staff commissioned to deliver fundraising activities but management of these individuals lay with the Client & Revenue Liaison Manager.
- Provide oversight of the day-to-day duties of volunteers supporting fundraising activities.
6. Working environment and conditions of the post
- Working at Torre Abbey and within its grounds. This may involve some working in an outdoors environment and working within a historic house location.
- There may be some off-site working, such as at networking & sector events, promotional exhibitions or similar.
7. Physical demands of the post
- There will be lifting involved in set up and break down of events/activities which will require manual handling.
- Ability to assist with evacuation of persons in a wheelchair during emergency procedures and act as Fire Marshall in event of a fire/emergency.

- The post holder is expected to work in a way that ensures vulnerable children and adults are safeguarded and report any safeguarding concerns in accordance with established policies and procedures. And are aware that the Chief Executive and the Director for Children's Services are the Safeguarding Leads for the Council.
- This post is office based at Torre Abbey but may also be eligible for home working.
- You will be asked to complete a Criminal Records Self Declaration Form. Criminal convictions will only be taken into account when they are relevant to the post. You will only be asked to disclose ‘unspent’ convictions.
- The Council operates a Smoke-Free Policy and the post-holder is prohibited from smoking in any of the Council's buildings (including Council owned and Council leased buildings, but excluding designated areas in residential schemes), enclosed spaces within the curtilage of buildings, and Council vehicles. The Council does not permit smoking breaks within work time, however, in services where the flexi-scheme is in operation, employees may take reasonable break times outside of core hours, in accordance with flexi-time arrangements. Employees should follow the flexi-scheme procedure for agreeing time away from their duties in the normal manner with their immediate colleagues and line manager, with break start and finish times being recorded, as with any other break-time arrangement.
- The post-holder is expected to familiarise themselves with and adhere to all relevant Council Policies and Procedures.
- The post-holder must comply with the Council’s Health and Safety requirements as outlined in the H&S policy appropriate to the role.
