A Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) for dog fouling that covers the whole of the Bay has been in place for several years and following a successful consultation in February 2021, it has now been extended for a further three years.
We know that most dog owners and visitors who bring their dogs to the Bay are responsible dog owners. This is by always keeping their dog in sight and being aware of what it is doing. Responsible owners always carry enough poo bags to be able to pick up after their dog, as many times as is necessary.
Forgetting to take bags when you are out with your dog is not an excuse. If you are unable to pick up after your dog on any public land immediately you will be in breach of the PSPO and may receive a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of up to £100.
This PSPO applies to all land and places the public has access to within our council area, for example, roads, pavements, public footpaths, alleyways, grass verges, beaches and parks including woodland. It will also apply to all areas of land or woodland managed by Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust.
Please note that if you have a recognised assistance dog then you will be exempt from the requirements of the PSPO.
