Training

On this page:
From April 2012 Torbay and Devon Safeguarding Children’s Board have amalgamated to delivery one training programme across Devon and Torbay.
This will mean for agencies and organisations that cross the borders of the two local authorities, staff will be able to access training relevant to both areas at either Torbay or Devon venues. If you work for Torbay Council or Torbay Care Trust you will still be able to access training here in Torbay.

How do I access the training?

Torbay Children’s Services, Safer Communities, Careers South West, Torbay Ofsted registered Childcare settings, Torbay Schools (excluding Academies) and Torbay Care Trust staff will all book via CPD online: Torbay CPD Online opens in a new window or Torbay Early Years CPD Online opens in a new window. Your places at the training have already been purchased by your agency, and your place with by authorised by the Professional Development Co-ordinator for your agency/ organisation.
South Devon Health Care Trust, Devon Partnership Trust, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Devon and Cornwall Probation Service, Torbay Academies, third sector and private organisations within Torbay will all book via the Devon Safeguarding Children’s Board Workforce Development Team. See Devon Safeguarding Children Board opens in a new window for further information.

Training delivery

Please note that the training may have mandatory e-learning or other courses to complete before you are allowed to attend certain courses. If you do not complete this course you may be turned away from the course or have your place cancelled.
There will also be pre-course and post-course reading for some courses, which we recommend you complete in order to make the most of your learning experience.
Some courses may also require you to print out handouts to take with you on the day of the course. These will be indicated when you book onto the training.
Core group 3 course (replacing Working Together to safeguard children), is delivered by the College of trainers of which agency’s have their own staff co-delivering on rota basis. All of whom have been trained and approved by Devon Safeguarding Children’s Board to deliver the training.
All specialist courses are delivered by commissioned trainers who are deemed specialists in their field.

Dates of courses currently available in Torbay:

If you require Group 2 level training i.e. Introduction to Child Protection please contact your agency representative for further information.

Evaluations – Torbay attendance

You will be asked to complete an ‘on the day’ evaluation of your course to establish what immediate impact you feel the course has made including actions you will take as a result of the course. Three month’s after the course you will receive an ‘impact’ evaluation to establish what medium term impact the course has had on your practice. Once you have completed this evaluation on your certificate will automatically be released on the Torbay cpd online website, under ‘My CPD online’ for you to print as and when required.
